Nothing says love like a homemade dessert, especially when it involves chocolate! Shower everyone in your life with love this Valentine’s Day.
February is here and it’s time to show our love for the special people in our lives. Anyone you decide to make these decadent and delicious chocolate dipped strawberries for will surely love you back! I promise this recipe is straightforward and does not require any special techniques or ingredients. Once you know how to make them, you will find many other occasions to make them for. They are a bit difficult to make in very warm, humid climates, but this time of year it should be a breeze no matter where you are.
How many times have you been to a party or event where chocolate covered strawberries were served? Probably seldom, as has been my experience. They are awesome for so many reasons, but I love the fact that they are gluten free. A close friend of mine has celiac disease, and desserts are tough to come by. Also, if you are watching your calories, you can feel good about the fact that dessert is mostly comprised of strawberry. While it is not strawberry season, check out this article for tips on how to pick out the best berries you can find. I think we have enough reasons for you to try making decadent and delicious chocolate dipped strawberries, right? Let’s get going!
This is the shortest ingredient list you are ever going to see!
Chocolate Chips (your choice white, milk or dark)
That’s all you need! The most important part is right here. Wash and dry your strawberries thoroughly. I do this a couple of hours before I plan to dip. If your strawberries are not completely dry, the moisture will ruin the chocolate and the process will not be easy for you. Once your strawberries are dry, inspect them. Any that have soft spots should be saved for a smoothie later.
Now, cover a sheet pan with a piece of parchment paper. You will put your decadent and delicious chocolate dipped strawberries here to dry.
Grab a coffee mug and fill it 1/3 of the way with your chocolate chips. Microwave at 1/2 power in 30 second intervals, stirring in between. Alternatively, you could melt your chocolate in a double boiler. I prefer this method as the mug design allows for easier dipping than a wide, shallow bowl. Once your chips are melted, dip the strawberries and lay them on the baking sheet. If you want to add any of the optional ingredients, do so immediately following each dip, as the chocolate solidified quickly. Repeat this process until you are finished dipping all the strawberries. The only exception is the metallic food paint. It is very easy and fun to use, just let the chocolate set before you paint.
Pop your tray in the freezer for 15 minutes to let everything firm up.
First of all, can’t you believe how easy that was? They are so beautiful and even better tasting. Take the time to present them in a beautiful way once you took the time to make them. You can place them on a doily lined tray, or in decorative cupcake liners. They would be beautiful on top of a cupcake, if you really want to go all out. Or, they would look adorable inside a heart shaped chocolate box. Check out this post from Valentine’s Day last year to see another creative use for an empty heart shaped chocolate box.
